I am an Educational and Developmental Psychologist specialising in children’s learning and development. I first became interested in children’s learning and development through my personal experience of parenting. This and my love of life-long learning led to study of psychology after former training as a nurse and study of classical piano. I have worked extensively with children and their families in the area of educational and developmental psychology for 16 years.

I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of New England (UNE) as an external student while my children were growing up and graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology Honours Class 1 and University Medal. I thoroughly enjoyed my studies at UNE as I was inspired and mentored by some outstanding academics. Post-graduate study in educational psychology was a natural extension of my academic interest in psycholinguistics and continuing interest in children's learning and development. I completed my doctoral training in educational psychology at The University of Queensland. In addition to my private practice, I am engaged in research at The University of Queensland that examines the neural correlates of attentional focus. I am an accredited supervisor involved in clinical supervision of post-graduate psychologists and a member of the College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists valuing active participation in my professional community.

In collaboration with co-author Aisling Mulvihill I have designed and developed a series of intervention programs for children ages 5 – 14 years who experience mild to severe delays in self-regulation. Key resources of these programs include The Ant Patrol® Children’s Stories, The Ant Patrol® Posters, and The Ant Patrol® Children’s i-Books (visit www.masterinstitute.com.au for further information)

I love my work. It demands analytical thinking, commitment to continuing professional development, reflective practice, and creativity. I am committed to excellence in professional practice and endeavour to provide functionally relevant services that focus on the development and enhancement of resilience and well-being.

I hold a special interest in impulse and attention control, emotional regulation, childhood anxiety, and social and emotional development.
